FOUR friends will be racing against the clock to raise funds for the Indee Rose Trust tomorrow.
Bryan Revell and Brett Kilgour will be using pedal power to cycle from The Point on Canvey to the Peter Boat pub in Leigh.
And Richard Taylor and Spencer Pearce will be completing the race in kayaks.
“It was Richard’s idea and we thought it would be a good way to raise money for the charity,” said Bryan, who lives on Canvey and runs Mornington Boys football club.
“Brett does quite a bit of cycling and I keep myself fit so hope I’ll be alright.
“Richard and Spencer had not done any kayaking before and went and bought boats after we decided to do the race.
“They have paddled the course a couple of times to get used to it but we're not sure how long it's going to take."
While Richard and Spencer, who both live in Leigh, will have the most direct route, Bryan and Brett will be splitting up.
Bryan is going to go along Canvey seawall and then cross-country across Benfleet downs on a mountain bike, while Brett will be sticking to the roads on his racer.
Friends have sponsored the quartet and the four racers have also put up a prize fund of £100 out of their own pockets for the sponsor who guesses the closest winning team's time.
The four will be setting off at high tide at 2pm tomorrow and the times for the teams will be when the last person from each team finishes.
The Indee Rose Trust was founded in 2009 by the family of Canvey youngster Indee Rose, who died after developing a brain tumour.
The charity supports children who have been diagnosed with brain or spinal tumours and their families.
