Owner of cockroach takeaway fined thousands
THE owner of a cockroach-infested takeaway has been fined more than £15,000 for failing to comply with food safety and cleanliness standards.
Sumanan Poopalasingam, owner of British Fried Chicken and Pizza, in Station Gate, Laindon, pleaded guilty to 15 food hygiene offences at Basildon Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
Inspectors at the end of January found the popular takeaway was dirty and poorly maintained, equipment was in contact with food was in poor repair, and the level of lighting was inadequate.
