AN 80-year-old woman has been taken to hospital after being hit by a car in Billericay.

The East of England Ambulance Service Trust (EEAST) received a number of calls this afternoon to a collision between a car and a pedestrian on Billericay High Street just before 1pm.

The casualty, a woman believed to be aged 80, suffered a serious head injury and a fractured arm.

A rapid response vehicle and an ambulance were sent to the scene and took the patient to Basildon Hospital for emergency treatment.

Police remained at the scene for some time and the road reopened at about 4.30pm..
