A BLUES club has had to cancel its long-running night after complaints from neighbours.

The New Crawdaddy Blues Club, which attracts up to 200 guests every week, will hold its last gig tomorrow.

It has had to cancel all but one of its future nights after its new venue received complaints from a nearby Travelodge.

The club ran for 13 years from the Belvedere, in Crays Hill, until mid-June.

It has only been running in its new base, at the Halfway House on the A127 near Brentwood, for three months.

Founder Paul Dean said: “It has been a way of life for us and the bands for 14 years.

“It’s our baby. It’s not just me, there’sacrew of 11 who help organise and we don’t take any money from it, we do it for the love of music. We are all devastated.

“It hasbeen forcedon us atvery short notice, but in this situation we are unable to continue.

“We had become the major blues event in the South East and, potentially, it’s come to an end. If a suitable venue was available we would consider it. They don’t come along like buses, though.”

The only night to remain willbe a performance by Buddy Whittingdon, who has flown in from America for a charity gig.

“It will now take place at the Touchline, in Hullbridge Sports Club, in Lower Road, on December 5.
