A NEW ward under construction to help Basildon Hospital cope with extra demand over winter is starting to take shape.
Work on the hospital’s new inpatient ward has gathered pace as the first of 29 modular units was lowered on to the site by a 72m-high crane.
The 28-bed ward is part of the trust’s plan to provide 67 more in-patient beds to meet the increased demand for emergency care.
