AN INVESTIGATION has been launched into the cause of an explosion at a chemical plant in West Thurrock.
Two men were left injured by the explosion, thought to have happened in a chlorine scrubbing unit at a Industrial Chemicals Ltd's Stoneness Road site at around 8.15pm last night.
The firm were unable to comment on the incident this morning due to the ongoing probe.
The bang, which nearby residents say caused their houses to shake, led to a leak of caustic soda which was contained on the site.
Once the fire crews had dealt with incident and helped make the site safe, the Health and Safety Executive were informed.
