POLICE are continuing to appeal for witnesses to an attempted theft in a Hadleigh supermarket car park.

Graham Oster-Ritter, 69, chased two men through Morrisons car park in London Road on Monday after two men tried to steal his mobile phone and his wife’s purse.

The crooks approached Mr Oster-Ritter as he was sat in his car with his wife Penny as told him his vehicle was leaking fuel.

He got out to look but when he could not find anything, became suspicious and got back inside.

One of the conmen then reached through the car window to shake Mr Oster-Ritter’s hand, but instead grabbed his mobile phone and released the car’s remote boot catch.

Mr Oster-Ritter managed to grab the phone back while his wife jumped out and stopped the second thief from taking her purse from the boot.

Mr Oster-Ritter then chased the pair, who he described as Eastern European, across the car park, but was unable to keep up.

Anyone with information about the incident can call Rayleigh police station on 101.
