THESE massive cranes could be seen as they headed for the much-anticipated London Gateway super-port.

Some of the biggest cranes in the world travelled along the Thames Estuary en route to the port in Corringham.

The cranes from a distance

A huge ship could be seen from miles away as it crept along the estuary past Shoebury, Southend Pier and Canvey with several cranes aboard.

The port will have six berths with 24 cranes, allowing the world’s largest ships to dock just 25 miles from London.

Once installed, the semi-automatic quay cranes will stand 138m tall and be able to move up to four containers at a time. The deep-sea container superport is being built by Dubai owned DP World.

Figures suggest the £1.5billion port will create more than 36,000 jobs, including thousands within its distribution depot.

Already, thousands have been created to construct the gigantic docks.

The port will eventually become the biggest in Europe.

The first berth is expected to open later this year.
