SOUTHEND Council is to reduce the speed limit in St George’s Park Avenue, Westcliff, from 30mph to 20mph and install large signs, but the new limit will not be enforced because of lack of resources.
Council officers will monitor whether drivers reduce their speed over six months, and if the sign change works, the limit could be reduced in other side streets in the borough.
Speed humps, which will be introduced in Westborough Road, between Westminster Drive and Southbourne Grove, were turned down in St George’s Park Avenue after opposition from some residents.
Police say they have insufficient resources to enforce 20mph speed limits.
