A MEMORIAL service for a climber who died in New Zealand will take place tomorrow.

Robert Buckley, 31, from Shoebury, died after falling 2,000ft from Mount Sefton in the country, where he had been travelling.

He was cremated in New Zealand last week and a service in his memory will take place in Shoebury.

The service is at the Shoeburyness and Thorpe Bay Baptist Church, on the corner of Caulfield Road and Thorpedene Gardens, at 4pm.

It will be followed by drinks at the Old Garrison pub, in Campfield Road, from 5.30pm.

Robert’s mum, Gill Ray, of Thorpedene Gardens, said: “It’s for people here that knew him.

“Friends are welcome to come to the service, but if they prefer just to come to the pub, they can.”

The family hope to scatter his ashes in Thailand and New Zealand which he loved visiting.
