Teenager Rebecca Ling was delighted when she caught sight of a dolphin painting created especially to adorn her bedroom wall.

Rebecca, 14, is paralysed from the neck down and relies on a ventilator to breathe after a spinal operation went tragically wrong.

The Echo launched a campaign to raise cash to revamp Rebecca's bedroom which prompted a generous £5,420 donation from Carly and Justin Innell who own Ballards Gore Golf Club in Stambridge.

Carly asked renowned Leigh artist Paul Karslake to paint a life-like portrait of a dolphin jumping out of the waves, which will now form the centre piece to Rebecca's new bedroom.

She said: "I even went down to the bookshop to get him a book on dolphins, so he would have something to work from.

"It's something she can look at every day and it's lovely. I've known Paul for years and his art-work is amazing."

Rebecca was clearly thrilled with her new picture and is excited as she counts the days down until she's home for Christmas.

The Ling family will be busy as 17 members of the family will be at their home in Runwell Road, Wickford, with everyone pitching in to help by bringing food and drink with them.

Rebecca's mum Julie said: "I can't believe it's finally going to happen.

"We have the Christmas trees, but Rebecca doesn't want us to decorate anything until she's home.

"I haven't even cooked in my kitchen. I can't wait."

The family have been getting into the Christmas spirit by popping down to visit Santa in his grotto at Alton's Garden Centre on the A127.

Rebecca said: "I asked Father Christmas for a games console.

"He was really nice and gave me a kiss on the cheek."
