PLANS to move day services used by more than 170 people with learning disabilities will be discussed next week.
Southend Council’s Tory cabinet approved plans to close the Avro part of the Avro Viking Centre, in Avro Road, Southend, transferring services to 49 Alexandra Street, Southend, St James the Great Church Hall, in Elmsleigh Drive, Leigh, and Southend Adult Community College, in Ambleside Drive, Southend, last month.
More than half of the 295 people who responded to a consultation backed the plan, with only 14 per cent opposed.
The Viking services for people with more profound learning disabilities, which are offered from the same building, may be expanded into the Avro part of the building unless a new location can be found for them.
A cross-party group of councillors will discuss the plan on Tuesday.
