Youngsters will be getting off the streets and grappling their way out of boredom with the launch of a new judo class.
Parents on the Craylands estate called for a martial arts club to be set up, to get youngsters off the streets and out of trouble.
So with the help of a £1,200 council grant, the Kodoshin Club has been launched at the community hall in Norwich Walk.
Instructor Joe Norman, who won a gold medal at the 1975 UK judo championships and the president and chairman of the All England Judo Federation, has taken the reins.
He said: "They came to me and I thought it was a great idea.
"The Craylands estate needs more facilities like this, especially for the kids.
"Judo is a very good all-round sport and it's a good self-discipline.
"It takes hard work and dedication and we can teach people at their own pace."
Terri Sargent, councillor for community services, said she is delighted to be able to give residents what they want.
She said: "When we asked parents what they would like to see happen on the estate, a judo class was one of the ideas that came out on top."
The club runs every Wednesday, from 6pm to 7pm for children aged up to ten years and from 7.15pm to 8.30pm for ages 11 to adult.
Classes cost £2 for under-16s and £3 for ages above.
