Move over, Macbeth and take a hike, Henry V - it's time for some fun at the theatre.
Among the footballers, singers, TV stars and theatre companies appearing at the Towngate Theatre in coming months will be a host of comedians.
Basildon Council, which runs the venue, has launched a new monthly comedy night, Towngate Titters.
Once a month, four different funny acts will appear on stage in a bid to raise the roof with laughter.
To start with, the shows will be staged in the Mirren Studio but if they become popular, the council will move the fixture to the main house.
The first Towngate Titters stars funnymen Milton Jones, John Robins, Sol Bernstein and Quincy, and takes place this Friday.
Perrier Best Newcomer award winner Milton will headline the evening, followed by John and his tightly-written gags, anecdotes and confessional stories, and the highly sought-after Quincy.
The laughs come in a different form when Steve Jameson takes to the stage with his comic creation Sol Bernstein.
Councillor for leisure and open spaces Anthony Hedley says: "This is an exciting new venture for the Towngate and comes on top of the packed list of acts we have already secured for the year ahead.
"We think there is a gap in the market for a comedy night which can appeal to residents of all ages. With a mix of male and female comedians, each with their own style, there should be something to tickle everyone's funny bone."
Upcoming Towngate Titters nights will take place in the Mirren Studio on Friday, February 23 and Friday, February 30.
Tickets cost between £10 and £12.
