Essex all rounder Ravinder Bopara is expected to make his senior international debut against Australia tomorrow.
The 21-year-old should replace the injured Michael Vaughan at the Gabba as England bid to upset the Aussies in their latest 50 over clash.
Vaughan, who only recently returned to fitness following a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a knee injury, has now picked up a hamstring problem.
But Essex coach and former England captain Graham Gooch is confident Bopara will make the most of his opportunity.
"It's a great opportunity for the lad," said Gooch.
"Ravi has made good progress over the last couple of years and I've always thought he was a talented cricketer.
"His fielding and bowling have come on well and played a big part in balancing our one-day side.
"As a result he has proved to be a valuable member of our successful team in limited-overs cricket over the last few years.
"This call-up is a good chance for him to get in amongst them and show what he's all about."
