It was interesting to read about the goings on at a Southend house suspected by police of operating as a brothel (Jan 17).
Apparently local residents were complaining about the large numbers of men visiting and the noise being generated.
With my sense of humour I can see many busybodies peeping behind curtains only wishing that they could participate, but instead decide to be the model citizen and report matters to the police.
Apparently police laid in wait for some days, maybe weeks before deciding to raid the premises.
Not sure how necessary that really was, but at least these officers were not involved in the farcical arrest of a man who arrived home to the welcome of three police cars and officers who decided to arrest him on a charge of criminal damage following his absent mindedness when his hosepipe was left running (Jan 16).
As immoral as it may seem, we are probably the only country in Europe that hasn't decided to legalise brothels.
It is simply a case of supply and demand. Those of us who can't hold down long-term relationships all have "needs" and if brothels were controlled and legalised it would keep our women safer on the streets as a result.
