The recent creation of official travellers' sites over the heads and objections of the settled community exemplifies a simple truth - there's no such thing as democracy.

Politicians aren't public servants, they're the people's masters and it's their views alone that count.

When travellers move on to a site, they leave it - if they leave - looking a sight. Two things occur, squalor and bad behaviour. But you can bet that if any politician found themselves living near a potential site, no travellers would be allowed anywhere near.

Why should the indigenous have to pay for the indigent in this way?
