A MAN has been accused of stealing guns from a house, then frightening his neighbours by walking about with the weapons in the street.
Micky Scott, of East Crescent, Canvey, is alleged to have stolen the guns and other items from a house in Woodlands Park, Leigh.
He appeared at Southend Magistrates’ Court on Friday accused of nine offences, allegedly committed within two weeks.
He was charged with four counts of burglary, three of fraud, handling stolen goods and being found on enclosed premises. The court heard Scott, 23, was on police bail for allegedly selling a stolen laptop to New and Used, in Bridgwater Drive, Westcliff, on October 6, when the other alleged offences took place.
Philip Pearson, prosecuting, said “very soon” after the burglary in Woodlands Park, on October 17, a member of the public called police after seeing a man with guns in the street. They were found to be antique and could not fire ammunition.
Scott is also said to have smashed through windows to raid properties in The Close, Benfleet, on October 6, Central Avenue, Canvey, on the same day and Devon Way, Canvey, on October 22.
It is alleged Scott handled stolen goods and tried to fraudulently sell items to Cash Converters, in Southend, and New and Used, including a ring which police described as being “of great sentimental value” .
The ring, laptop and two other items have since been recovered and returned to their owners.
Scott appeared in court on Friday from custody, having been arrested on October 22 near a property in Lakeside Path, Canvey.
Wearing a red prison issue sweatshirt and trousers, he spoke only to confirm his name during the short hearing.
He was remanded in custody to appear at Basildon Crown Court on January 23.
As he was taken from court, he blew a kiss to his mother in the public gallery.
