Settling down to watch television with her grandson Dennis has prompted Hazel Morris to pick up the pen.
Now the 58-year-old secretary's story about a rabbit has made it to the top 15 bedtime stories in a competition run by TV channel Nickelodeon Junior.
Her story - Happy Christmas Dennis - could now be made into a cartoon.
"I'm really thrilled," said Hazel, of Little Wakering.
"When my children were little I used to tell them stories and Dennis loves me doing the actions.
"They all love the voices and when I saw the competition I thought: well, I'll have a go.
"I based the story on when my children were younger and their rabbit went missing."
Hazel, who has two other grandchildren Ronnie, two, and Rhinnan, four, wrote the story about bunny Santa, who escapes and mixes with wild rabbits who are preparing for Christmas.
He is given a red bow, which he takes back to his owner, Dennis.
