Alastair Cook hopes he will benefit in the long run from his part in England's 2006/07 Ashes whitewash.
The Essex batsman, who scored one of England's three Test centuries this winter as they suffered only the second 5-0 series defeat in Ashes history, admits the experience of his second full senior tour was "disappointing".
But the left-handed opener insists nonetheless he has learned from the debacle.
"Obviously I was disappointed with everything really - as you would have to be looking at the results," the 22-year-old said.
"I went over there with high hopes and was aiming to do better personally, and for the team to do better.
"It still hurts - but it's just one of those things we are going to have learn from."
