Liverpool's bid to sign West Ham midfielder Javier Mascherano is rumbling on.
The Reds had been expected to sign the Argentinian yesterday after Mascherano was given dispensation to join them by football's governing body FIFA.
The move came despite the Argentinian international having already played for two clubs since July 1 last year, Corinthians and West Ham.
FIFA's decision cleared the way for the Anfield side to rescue Mascherano from the Hammers, where he has failed to make an impact since signing with fellow Argentinian international Carlos Tevez as the summer transfer window closed.
Mascherano's registration documents were sent to the Premier League before the transfer window shut at midnight last night.
But the Premier League is delaying the move until it has taken time to "satisfy itself with the proposed arrangements".
The delay means Mascherano will not be able to play for Liverpool while his transfer is being considered.
