Westcliff Lawn had a May day celebration after beating Men's Division Two high-flyers Thorpe Bay II.

Derek May and John Colman got Lawn off to a good start with a 6-0 7-6 win over Thorpe visitors Trevor Brown and Chris Porter.

And then Geoff Spillett and Chris May secured the victory with a 6-4 7-6 Nigel Walker and Malcolm Sedgwick.

Crowstone moved to within five points of Ladies' Division Five leaders Westcliff Hard IV following a 4-0 win over Thorpe Bay V.

Steph Andrews and Maddie Maxwell put hosts Crowstone in the driving seat with a 6-2 7-6 victory over Thorpe's Anna Dudman and Lucy Small.

Another straight sets win secured the six-point maximum for Crowstone as Christine Tancock and Gill Richards saw off Dawn Skelding and Helen Knight 6-2 6-1.

Thorpe Bay II zoomed up the Mixed Division Two table courtesy of a 4-0 win over Rayleigh II.

Bay's second string went into the match second from bottom, but the six-point winning haul elevated them to second spot in a tight division.

Ann Murray and Chris Porter beat Rayleigh's Mark Rose and Debbie Rose 6-4 6-2 and then Sarah Potts and Nigel Walker defeated Andy Forsyth and Jan Cooper to secure the six points.

Westcliff Hardcourts' ladies' teams had a hat-trick of Essex County LTA winter league wins over the weekend.

The first team of Faye Watts, Alice Dickens, Jasmine Young and Sue Hookway beat Cranston Park 3-1.

The seconds saw off Danbury 4-0 thanks to Fiona Stone, Dawn Handelaar, Anna Burton and Karen Poole.

The third string of Alex Varran, Anne Hammond, Cezera Dave and Vironie Viravong wrapped up the trio of wins by beating Thurrock 4-0.

Hard's ladies will be at Brentwood Lawn this weekend for their Don Barton Cup semi-final.
