Jamie Homer's boxing career is continuing to blossom after seeing off established England squad member Ricky Rose.
The Rayleigh Amateur Boxing Club fighter defeated Rose on points over three rounds at Hutton Community Centre.
And he is on track for a national crown this year, according to coaches at Rayleigh ABC.
"This win for Jamie establishes him as a firm contender to take a British title this year," said assistant coach Les Cooke.
"He works very hard in the gym and is an inspiration to all those that train around him, from the young juniors to experienced seniors.
"After seeing his fantastic performance against a very good opponent, he has got to be a favourite to make the 2012 Olympics squad."
Homer's high profile since reaching the finals of the British National Association of Clubs for Young People finals last year has meant Rayleigh ABC chiefs have found it hard to find opponents for him.
The Rayleigh fighter has been forced to step up in class and box against the best in the country, even for standard club shows.
But he has risen to the challenge in style, despite facing tough bouts like the one against Rose, who fights out of the Elite ABC in Gravesend, Kent.
However, Homer issued a statement of intent in the first round with his confidence allowing him to land a stream of flurries without getting caught with any shots from Rose.
The second round saw Homer digging into his energy reserves to maintain the power needed to box at the highest levels.
And even though Homer was comfortably ahead on points in the third, he refused to rest on his laurels.
Rose was warned for consistent holding after Homer repeatedly landed his punches. It came as no surprise to the Rayleigh fighter's corner when a unanimous verdict in Homer's favour was announced.
"Jamie looked very sharp and totally overwhelmed Rose," added Cooke. "He was easily the best boxer on the night."
