Lindsay Lohan as Cady Heron
You’re probably aware that a LOT of things have happened to Lindsay Lohan since her glorious Mean Girls days, so we don’t need to go into the gory details of her various brushes with the law and well-documented drunken antics in Hollywood. Let’s just talk about her acting career; Linds featured in a couple of films you’ve probably never heard of during her troubled years (Chapter 27 anyone? I Know Who Killed Me? No?) but more recently she starred in sexy horror flick the Canyons and made her debut in London’s West End in Speed-The-Plow, to mixed reviews.
David Reale as Glen Coco
“Who the heck is David Reale?” we hear you ask. He’s only the greatest character in the whole movie, the dude who managed to score an impressive four candy canes from Santa. Who could forget the timeless quote “Four for you Glen Coco, you go Glen Coco!”? Last year, David told Dazed & Confused magazine that he wasn’t actually ever cast in the film – it was filmed down his road and he just showed up on set to take advantage of the free food. Since that fateful day, he’s picked up roles in Suits, the American adaptation of Skins, Queer as Folk and lent his voice to the Beyblade cartoon series. You go, David Reale!
Rachel McAdams as Regina George
Rachel initially auditioned for the role of Cady, but producers decided she was better off playing icy Queen Bee Regina George. She’s moved on from terrorising home schooled jungle freaks and has since enjoyed a wildly successful career in hit films like the Notebook, the Sherlock Holmes movies and the Vow.
Jonathan Bennett as Aaron Samuels
Despite looking sexy with his hair pushed back, Jonathan is yet to re-create his Mean Girls success with any projects that followed. He’s maintained a respectable career in various films and TV shows, as well as a stint on Dancing With the Stars, and when judge Julianne Hough blurted out in an interview that the actor was gay. We know right, word vomit at its worst. Jonathan has never confirmed or denied the rumour.
Rajiv Surendra as Kevin Gnapoor
Rajiv was just 15 years old when Mean Girls came out, but sadly the seductive call of Hollywood failed to entice him into a long and fruitful acting career. Instead, he relocated to New York and is now a craftsman, making candles, signs and pottery. He’s also a pretty talented calligrapher.
Tim Meadows as Mr Duvall
Tim was already a well-known Saturday Night Live regular when he hit our screens as clueless Mr Duvall in 2004, but Mean Girls’ success launched him into stardom. You’ve probably seen him pop up in Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Colbert Report, Suburgatory and 30 Rock. He also stars in Nigel & Oscar vs. The Sasquatch, a comedy sci-fi flick due to be released later this year.
Amy Poehler as Mrs George
The former Mrs George is still enjoying a very successful career as one of Hollywood’s best Hollywood actresses, with frequent spots on Saturday Night Live, a key role in cult series Parks and Recreation and several hilarious hit movies under her belt. She’s also due to star as Susie in the upcoming Netflix series Wet Hot American Summer.
Lacey Chabert of Gretchen Wieners
Before Mean Girls fame, Lacey had mainly worked voicing cartoons, most notably as Eliza Thornberry in the Wild Thornberrys (yes seriously, Gretchen Weiners and Eliza Thornberry had the same voice. Mind blowing, we know). After making “fetch” happen in Mean Girls, she returned to voice work, taking on the role of Gwen Stacy in the Spectacular Spider-Man series and
Lizzy Caplan as Janis Ian
No, we’re not winding you up. That really is Janice Ian, of “Your mom’s chest hair!” fame. Here’s another few facts that will totally blow your mind: she’s also Julia in new Girl, Casey Klein in Party Down, Amy Burley in True Blood and the voice of Debbie in American Dad. You just didn’t realise because she doesn’t wear so much eyeliner or oversized t-shirts any more. MIND BLOWING.
Daniel Franzese as Damian
Daniel was a 26-year-old actor struggling to make his way in Hollywood when he landed the role of Damian, Janice’s sassy sidekick who was “almost too gay to function”. He went on to pick up bits and pieces of TV and film work, finally landing a role as Eddie in the drama series Looking. Like Damien, Daniel was always an “art freak” at heart and has curated several successful exhibitions. He came out as gay in an emotional letter to his character, trust us, you’ll want to read this if your haven’t done already. It will make you feel feelings.
Tina Fey as Ms Norbury
Tina Fey was already a pretty big name when she wrote and starred in Mean Girls thanks to her frequent appearances on Saturday Night Live, but the movie’s phenomenal success lead to even greater things. She wrote and starred in her own NBC show 30 Rock and has won a total of eight Emmy Awards, two Golden Globes and five SAG awards for her comedic talents.
Amanda Seyfried as Karen Smith
Bright-eyed Amanda Seyfried was relatively unknown before she joined the cast as Karen, the ditzy Mean Girl with a “fifth sense” – predicting the weather with her boobs. In the last 11 years she’s taken on a huge range of hit roles, starring in Mama Mia, Dear John, Lovelace and Les Miserables just to name a few. But we’ll always remember her as the girl who made out with her “first cousin” while dressed as a mouse.
