FORMER Basildon MP Harvey Proctor has revealed police have questioned him about alleged murders as part of a child sex ring.
Mr Proctor, who was quizzed by officers on Monday, protested his innocence and branded accusations against him “unbelievable” in a statement issued today.
The ex-Tory politician claims allegations against him are centred on a single complainant, known only as Nick, who told police Mr Proctor was part of a group which abused him for a decade from 1975 onwards.
He claimed Mr Proctor, now 68, was responsible for the murders of two boys, and implicated in the death of a third.
Mr Proctor, MP for Basildon from 1979 to 1983 and Billericay from 1983 to 1987, said: “It is so far-fetched to be unbelievable.
“It is unbelievable because it is not true.
"They amount to just about the worst allegations anyone can make against a person, including the multiple murder of children, their torture, grievous bodily harm, rape and sexual child abuse.
"I'm completely innocent of all these allegations. I'm a homosexual. I'm not a murderer or a paedophile.
"This whole catalogue of events has wrecked my life."
At a press conference held at a central London hotel, Mr Proctor said he had been accused of being part of a VIP paedophile ring, along with former prime minister Sir Edward Heath, home secretary Leon Brittan and the heads of MI5 and MI6.
Mr Proctor claimed an accusation one alleged sex attack took place at Sir Edward’s home was “unbelievable”, because the two men detested each other due to political differences.
In 1987, Mr Proctor pleaded guilty to gross indecency and was fined £1,450 for engaging in sexual activity with males aged 21 and under.
He has emphasised the offence is no longer a criminal act, since the homosexual age of consent has since been lowered.
Officers from the Met Police’s Operation Midland, which is investigating alleged sex abuse in the 1970s and 1980s, raided Mr Proctor’s Lincolnshire home in March.
He has since been interviewed twice after attending pre-arranged appointments, but has not been arrested or charged.
At yesterday’s press conference, Mr Proctor called on the head of Operation Midland to resign and claimed he was the victim of a “homosexual witch hunt”.
