A drunk man, who took a night out a bit too far when he stripped naked and allegedly started damaging and running into cars on Southend seafront, has been charged.
Tom O'Neill, 32, of no fixed address, has been charged with criminal damage to a vehicle, being drunk and disorderly and assaulting a police officer.
A number of videos of the man running towards cars in the middle of the road, surrounded by his discarded clothes, began to appear on social media this morning following the incident at about 12.40am on Friday morning.
The police were swiftly called to Marine Parade to deal with him.
A police spokesman said: "Police were called at 12.40am on Friday to reports that a man was damaging cars in Marine Parade, Southend.
"Officers attended and a 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage to a vehicle, being drunk and disorderly and assaulting a police officer.
"He has been charged with these offences. He has been bailed to appear before Southend Magistrates Court on Monday, February 8."
Insp Brad Dickel had tweeted on Friday morning: “Drunk male suspected of damaging cars southend (sic) seafront early hours now sitting in cells following prompt action by PC Finch & PD Cody.”
