South Essex politicians are to take part in a public debate on Britain’s EU membership in Grays as the key In-Out referendum fast approaches.
Thurrock MP Jackie Doyle-Price is to chair the debate in Grays Parish Church, which will be led by key politicians on both sides of the campaign to prepare people to make up their minds for the key vote on June 27.
A ‘Walk-by’ vote is also being held this Saturday on Grays High Street, where members of the public will get their chance to drop their vote into boxes by Grays War Memorial, from 12pm.
The Remain camp will be represented at the public debate by former Thurrock MP Andrew MacKinlay, and Kevin McNamara who is the Thurrock coordinator for the Stronger In campaign.
The Brexit debate will be led by MP Rochford and Southend East James Duddridge, who is also Minister for Africa in the Foreign Office, together with Chadwell St Mary Councillor Gerard Rice, coordinator of the Vote Leave campaign in Thurrock.
Debate host Ms Jackie Doyle-Price, who has so far expressed her views as “undecided” said: “I am delighted that we are able to hold this debate. Whilst many people have firm and settled views on whether we should be in or out, there are many people who, like me can see the pros and cons on either side. This debate is for them.
“Much of the discussion has been sensationalist in tone. This debate will be a mature discussion led by two people for whom I have great respect and who will express their views with sincerity.”
The free debate will be held on June 17 at the St Peter and St Paul Church on the High Street in Grays town centre.
Doors will open at 6.30pm for refreshments before the main debate commences and then discussion is thrown open to the floor.
MP Jackie Doyle-Price has expressed her views as “undecided”. The Thurrock MP said: “ CHASING THIS FROM ECHO “
