HAPPY couples who got married at an historic church are being asked to come forward and add their photos to an upcoming exhibition.

The Friends of All Saints is holding the exhibition at the church, in London Road, Vange, as part of a drive to celebrate its history.

The committee formed in 2010 after All Saints Church closed and was opened as a site of historical, architectural and archaeological interest.

Treasurer Jan Watt, 57, said they already have photographs from 90 people who had their weddings at the church, ranging from the 1920s to 1990s.

She said: “I think this will be our second event like this, it came about as I have family members who were married in All Saints Church in the past and some other members of the group also did.

“We just thought it would be wonderful to get a kind of scrapbook and collection together of old pictures from weddings at the church and put them on display along with memorabilia such as old wedding dresses and things like that.”

She added: “We want to learn different people’s stories about their weddings and all the different weddings the church has seen over its extensive history.”

The wedding display will be held at the church on September 17 and 18, from 10am until 3pm, and all are welcome to attend.

Mrs Watt added “I was married in the church, my sister was married in the church and my parents were also married in All Saints Church.

“I also have various family members buried in the church graveyard.”

Parts of the existing church building date back to the 11th century.

But once St Chad's Church, in nearby Clay Hill Road, opened in the 1950s, the old church, which lacked heating, running water and even toilets, became used less and less.
