LADIES community choir the Dove Singers has a vacancy for a musical director.

The choir, which has been running for more than 80 years, has raised a lot of money for charity in that time.

The current musical director Kara Florish is leaving and the group are looking for a replacement for January 2017.

There are 38 members of varying abilities from beginners to experienced singers.

Pat Garner, from the Dove Singers, says: "Our repertoire is very wide from spirituals to musicals through several languages. We, and our audiences, enjoy it all."

The choir was started in the 1930’s by the Co-operative store which was situated, within a parade of shops, near the Barge public house in Vange.

The Co-op sponsored the choir up until last year when the shops were pulled down and the choir moved to Trinity Methodist Church in Clay Hill Road where they still are today.

It was led by an original member Alice Dove, which is where the name the Dove Singers comes from.

Pat says: "Up to a few months ago one of the founder members, Alice Barstable, was still singing with the choir. She was 96 when she passed away. Many of the current members have been singing with the choir for 20 or 30 years and have experienced many changes."

The self-funded choir devote the revenue from each concert to a different charity and have raised a lot of money over the years.

They are looking for someone who can help them continue their good work

"He, or she, will have a wide knowledge of choral repertoire in order to devise the programmes for the two or three concerts each year and teach it at the weekly rehearsals. Singing experience and knowledge of teaching vocal technique would be an advantage. The successful candidate would also be responsible for engaging additional professional performers if required."

The group are asking for people who are interested in the role to email e_jag@msn.com.

The Christmas concerts is always very popular and rehearsals are well underway for a performance on Saturday 10 December.

They rehearse in Trinity Methodist Church in Clay Hill Road every Monday from 7.30pm to 9.30pm.
