A COMMUNITY was left in shock yesterday when the bodies of two young people were discovered in a car on a quiet street in Chelmsford.
Police were called by the ambulance service shortly before 11.15am on Monday (December 5) to Fox Crescent, after a vehicle was found with two people slumped inside.
Sadly, the man and woman, believed to be in their twenties had died inside the Blue Ford Fiesta.
The victims have been named locally as Nikki Willis, a shop worker at CeX in Chelmsford and Tom Putt, an apprentice for Ford from Leigh, according to their Facebook profiles.
Tributes were pouring in as friends took to social media to describe their shock and devastation at the loss.
Essex Police said the deaths were being treated as unexplained.
Both sides ends of Fox Crescent remain cordoned off while a number of police officers stand guard.
Forensics set up a tent around the vehicle and could be seen hard at work.
A police spokesman said: "Police were called by the ambulance service shortly before 11.15am on Monday December 5, to Fox Crescent in Chelmsford.
"Two people, a man and a woman, were found in a car and are believed to have died. Police are at the scene making enquiries."
The family has been informed.
As part of standard procedure, tests were conducted to check for potential noxious substances to ensure the safety of emergency services and the public.
The scene was later declared safe and there was no risk.
A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service, said: "The East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust (EEAST) received a call 11.03am to reports of an incident on Fox Crescent in Chelmsford.
"We dispatched our hazardous area response team (HART), two ambulance crews, three ambulance officers, and a rapid response vehicle.”
A tribute has been made to the young people by CarSociety.
