NEW Year’s Day was very special for five new parents as their babies were brought into the world across South Essex.

Expectant mothers arrived at the maternity wards of Basildon and Southend Hospital through the final hours of 2017 and the opening hours of 2018.

Among the babies born on New Year’s Day was Kaiden Tani, who arrived at 3.45am.

Kaiden was born to first time Mum and Dad, Dorchus and Pekance Tani.

Baby Kaiden weighed in 8lb 6oz when he was born yesterday morning.

Speaking about Kaiden’s birth, mum, Dorchus, said: “It was so surreal having him born, it has not quite sunk in yet.

“It is my first birth baby and it is just very exciting.

“It is amazing to have him born on New Years Day, it was what I wanted.”

Dorchus went into labour with Kaiden in the late hours of New Year’s Eve, however, she was ecstatic when she found her baby was going to be born in 2018.

She said: “I started having contractions on New Years Eve, I was just hoping that he would come on New Years Day, so it was amazing that it did happen.

“Obviously, I was in a lot of pain, but it was a natural birth and that is great.”

“We haven’t named him yet.

“My husband and I have thought of several names but we haven’t decided on which one to choose.”

Despite a long night giving birth to her new son, she was filled with happiness and ready to take her baby boy home.

“I am so exhausted, but at the same time very happy.

“My eldest son is 20 months old.

“I am a stay at home mum for now, but I think I will be very busy because this little one will need more attention.

“My husband and I haven’t thought if we’re going to have another child. Maybe we might.”
