A Basildon hair salon will take centre stage in a brand-new Channel Five show.
Jet Hairdressing Academy, based in The Gloucesters, Crompton Close, will open its doors to television viewers after it was made the filming location for the 5Star programme, Extreme Hair Wars.
The show will see four teams of professional stylists go head to head in a battle to make the most creative hairstyle possible.
Along with hair, contestants will be able to use make up in order to complete challenges to fight their way to a final show.
And it is not only the salon which has a local involvement with Extreme Hair Wars.
One of the judges on the show, Martyn Holmes, began his hairdressing career in Essex in 1984.
Four years later, he moved on to open his own salon in Benfleet.
After then spending years as a backstage stylist on television, he moved back to Essex and opened his own shop again, but this time in Leigh.
Martyn will judge alongside Robert Masciave, a stylist who was named Best Southern Hairdresser of the year back in 2015.
Jet Hairdressing has four academies across Essex and aims to train local apprentices to the highest of industry standards.
They hope that the show will work as a platform to boost the numbers joining the salon.
Owner of Jet Hairdressing Basildon, Jill Kitchenham, said she was proud to have TV crews use her salon for the show.
She said: “We are hoping that it will encourage anyone who is considering entering this fantastic industry to give us a call.
She added: “Having Extreme Hair Wars filmed at the Jet Hairdressing Academy was such an exciting experience.
“My team felt really inspired by all the creative, talented hairdressing competitors involved in the show.
“We were very proud to have the filming take place at our academy plus one of our guest trainers Martyn Holmes being a judge.”
Award winning comedy writer, performer and presenter, London Hughes will be hosting the Basildon-based show. She was named winner of the Funny Women Awards in 2009.
The series will kick-off on 5Star at 8pm on Thursday January 25.
