SHAYON Harrison admitted he jumped at the chance to join Southend United on loan from Tottenham Hotspur.
The 20-year-old will be with the Shrimpers until the end of the season.
And Harrison is thrilled to be at Roots Hall.
“I’m buzzing to be here,” said Harrison.
“When I found out Southend were interested in me I thought it was perfect move for me.
“I’ve spoken to the manager and he’s really keen on me being here and made me feel really welcome.
“People at Spurs have spoken to me about the manager and how he’s developed young players so I’m really looking forward to working with him.”
Harrison – who came through the youth ranks at Tottenham – spent time on loan at Yeovil Town last season, scoring once in five starts.
But he now feels ready to play at a higher level.
“League Two was what I expected in the physicality side of it, it was much different to under 23 football but I’m looking for a new challenge in League One and I’m ready to make that jump,” said Harrison.
“I was injured at the beginning of the season but since I’ve been back I’ve played quite a few games in the under 23 side at Spurs.
“But now I just want to play men’s football regularly and show what I’m about.
“I feel strong and good and can’t wait to get started.”
Harrison will be in the Shrimpers squad for Saturday’s clash at Peterborough United.
