A GROUP of music men are organising an anti-war protest gig to take place in Southend this Sunday - May 6 - at the Railway Hotel.

Not In Our Name #2, has been organised by drummer Steve Butler, DJ Davyd Skull and singer and soundman Duncan Leslie, and involves a full bill of acts to play from 4pm until 11pm.

Steve explains the trio put on another event two years ago, in response to previous events involving Syria, and this is the second in the wake of the widely condemned air strikes. The purpose of the gig, is to "raise awareness of how people can inform themselves and engage in debate to make a difference" and will include representatives from organisations like the Stop the War Coalition.

Steve added: “Like last time, we felt we just had to do something. It's not about raising money, it's about raising awareness, sharing information and finding we're not necessarily so impotent after all if we act together.”

Any interested local groups who'd like to contribute are welcome to contact the organisers.

Among the acts performing will be the pub's landlords, Dave and Fi Dulake, in their Tuppenny Bunters' hats.

Bands and acts include: Kate West; Tony Groves; Leo Clemenson; House of Dialogue; Toska Wilde; Frankie Roe ; Larry De Tramp; Modern Motive; the Get; Tara Rez; Okuri Okami; Tuppeny Bunters and the Sprockets.

Admission is "what you can afford" with a suggested price of £5.

Steve said: "Money collected will go to covering expenses. If we make a decent enough profit we'll be making a donation to an appropriate charity!"

The Railway Hotel is in Clifftown Road, Southend.
