SOUTHEND United chairman Ron Martin let rip at the Shrimpers’ underperforming players following their Checkatrade Trophy defeat to Portsmouth, Echosport understands.
The League One leaders made 10 changes to their starting line-up for Tuesday night’s third round clash but still emerged comfortable winners with goals from Louis Dennis and Gareth Evens securing a comfortable 2-0 triumph and £40,000 in prize money.
Martin was a frustrated figure in the directors box and went into the changing room after the game to express his displeasure at the below par performance.
Martin was not willing to confirm the incident when contacted by Echosport. Blues, who are 10th in League One, will be looking to bounce back at home to Plymouth on Saturday.
