Firefighters rushed to a car fire at a busy roundabout.
Huge flames engulfed the car at the Nevendon roundabout in Wickford at about 7pm last night.
Residents took to Facebook to post about the incident.
The road was blocked while officers cleared the scene.
A spokesman for Essex Fire Service said: "Crews were called to Nevendon Road, Basildon, at 6.58pm last night after reports of a car on fire.
"Firefighters extinguished the fire by 7.20pm.
"The cause of the fire was recorded as accidental."
