A PUB has confirmed it will close down this weekend after holding up a £150 million development.

The Foresters Arms has announced it will close its doors for the last time on Sunday.

The pub had been threatened with legal action from developers Inner London Group, who needed the whole site on Marine Parade to be cleared to make way for the Marine Plaza development.

In a post on their official Facebook page for their adult entertainment business on Friday, the pub wrote: “It’s our penultimate weekend at The Foresters Arms as we will officially close our doors for the last time on Sunday, June 9.

“To all of our customers past and present, come down and see our girls for the last time over the next week... the last time they will be here will be next Saturday evening.

“Until then, make the most of them, we hope to see you all one last time.”

Planning permission was granted in 2015 for 282 flats along with shops and restaurants on the landmark seafront site opposite the Kursaal.

The plans stalled after being hit by the gloomy economic climate in recent years, but the company secured a construction partner to provide a £60million boost and allow the scheme to get off the ground.

The 282 homes across six buildings, will range in height from four to 14 storeys.

The work is likely to take five years to complete.

With the pub closed, the developers will still need to clear a temporary car park on the site before work can begin.

Other businesses, including a taxi rank and fish and chip shop, have already closed.

Larry Fenttiman, chairman of the Inner London Group, previously told the Echo they wanted to get hoardings up to secure the site but demolition would not start until this was completed.

Mr Fenttiman was contacted for this story but could not be reached before the Echo went to press.
