A SYNAGOGUE could be built in the back garden of a home on Canvey.

Hinda Paneth, 33, and her family, are considering early proposals for the prayer centre in Furtherwick Road, Canvey

She says nothing is concrete and if the plans are approved, it would all be above board.

The mum said: “We do have an extra large garden and the main synagogue is a long way away.

“We don’t drive on Saturdays and need to pray three times a day.

“Nothing has happened yet and if it goes ahead it’ll all be done with the council and architects.

“The centre would not involve any cars being parked or music playing or lots of people.

“If agreed it would be for the whole Jewish community and would be easier to get to on foot than the other centre.”

Mrs Paneth also revealed her family have been subjected to hate crime since they moved to the island.

She said: “We moved into our home during December from London and have had lots of harassment.

“I understand it can be frustrating for people when neighbours have work done.

“People have been threatening myself and my children and we had a builder assaulted last week.”

The mum added: “It’s been horrendous and nobody has come to talk to us about our plans and or us living here.

“We want to work with people and do not want to fight with anyone.

“We’d heard nice things about Canvey but have had bad experiences so far.

“I am looking forward to caring for my family here.”

At the moment, there is a prayer centre in Meppel Avenue, on Canvey.

The Jewish Luzern Yeshiva school at the site burnt down just before Christmas and the community has pledged to rebuild it.

Anyone with information on this crime or any hate crimes on Canvey should call Essex Police on 101.
