A ROAD in the heart of south Essex has been christened the millionaire mile after it was revealed six homes sold for more than £1million last year.
New figures have revealed the most expensive streets in Essex, with Benfleet Road, which runs between Hadleigh and Benfleet, being one of them.
The street was formerly home to author Martina Cole but the writing is far from on the wall for the picturesque road, given six homes on it were sold for more than £1million in 2019.
Close behind it is Norsey Road, in Billericay, where four homes were sold for more than £1 million.
Elsewhere in the affluent town, 13 houses were sold for over the £1 million mark.
Seven homes in Leigh were sold for seven-figure sums while six houses elsewhere in Southend also hit the mark.
One house in Great Wakering, Rochford, also topped the magic number.
Charles Mumford, a councillor of the Boyce ward in Benfleet, told the Echo that the house prices can only be a positive for Benfleet.
He said: “It’s good to see. They’re very impressive along there.
I drive along there occasionally and you can see why they’re worth that much.
“It’s aspirational and it shows we have a wealth of talent in Benfleet.
“It’s good that we have these types of roads in the area.
“It’s a high demand area, there are some splendid houses.”
David Dadds, the former mayor of Basildon, and councillor for Billericay East, insisted that housing in Billericay, despite the large number of high value sales, must be fair to all.
He said: “It doesn’t matter if you live in a £1million home or if the house is tenanted.
“People need to keep using the community facilities. Whether you’re shopping in Waitrose or Poundland, you’re still supporting our businesses.”
