A MUM claims a gang attacked her son “like a pack of wolves” outside a Southend seafront pub.
The woman, who would not be named, said her son was stabbed by a gang of five outside Chinnery’s pub in Marine Parade.
Police say five people were arrested after an argument broke out in Marine Parade just before 11pm on Monday.
The victim was punched and kicked before sustaining a stab wound to his lower back.
However, the mother of the victim, from Southend, claimed her son was subjected to an unprovoked attack in the incident.
She said they were having a family celebration in the pub.
She added: “They were like a pack of wolves on him - he was only having a cigarette outside.
“I was punched, too, after I stepped in to help him.
“It was so horrible to see. He was lucky he turned around before they stabbed him and he was wearing a thick jumper.
“He’s never been in a fight or in trouble with the police before.”
The mum added: “There was no fight.
“They ran away before coming back and stabbing him.”
Fortunately, the man’s injuries are not believed to be life-threatening or physically life-changing.
Police also said two women were reportedly assaulted at the same time.
Three men, aged 20, 24, and 27, were arrested, along with a 22-year-old woman, and a 16-year-old girl, on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
All five are currently in custody.
Ian Gilbert, Labour leader of Southend Council, said: “It’s very worrying.
“It’s not what you want to see.
“I’m glad that the victim is doing OK.
“The council is doing what it can to make the town and the night time economy safer for everyone.”
A spokesman for Essex Police urged anyone with information on the incident to come forward as soon as possible to help the investigation.
The spokesman added: “If you saw anything, have any CCTV, dash cam or mobile phone footage, or have any other information please call us on 101 quoting the crime reference number 42/26634/20
“Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
