A LEIGH hairdresser has found a novel way to make sure his clients do not have a bad hair day.
Paul Phillips had to shut the doors of his Chopp hair salon, in The Ridgeway, in March due to the Covid-19 outbreak.
With salons remaining closed, Mr Phillips has continued to help his clients by providing a new service called Chopp Drops, where he delivers hair products to customers’ doors and then demonstrates how to apply the treatment through a video call.
Mr Phillips, who grew up in Benfleet, is pleased to have seen his imaginative idea pay off.
“I came up with the idea the moment we, as an industry, were told we had to go into lockdown,” said Mr Phillips.
“Once I came up with the name Chopp Drops, I felt good about it immediately.
“I was stuck with lots of products people typically buy in the salon and it’s been great being able to provide my clients with these, while following social distancing guidelines, and then telling them how to apply the products via a video call.”
The 33-year-old, who serves up to 26 clients a day, believes Chopp Drops has had a major mental impact on his clients.
“A lot of people are not in a good place mentally and don’t want to go grey,” added Mr Phillips.
“People come into the salon every three weeks to get their roots done and not being able to do that was really getting them down.
“My clients have gone from feeling down to really happy and Chopp Drops has gone down a treat.
“After leaving products at a client’s door, they sometimes come out as I’m getting back in my car and it’s great to see the joy on their face.”
Mr Phillips, who has been contacting his clients through Zoom and Facetime calls, has owned the Chopp hair salon for close to nine years.
He feared for his business when the lockdown was imposed 10 weeks ago.
“Other than government grants, there was no money coming in to the salon,” admitted Mr Phillips.
“If the lockdown goes on much longer, I will worry more. A lot of people are running on empty and need to open their businesses sooner rather than later.”
