A FAMILY-RUN business which is a firm favourite with the kids has had to make vital adjustments to ensure children and parents alike are kept safe while coronavirus remains a serious health risk.
Toys ‘n’ Tuck, based on Southend’s Queens Road, is a young child’s version of paradise with traditional old favourites such as Lego, Brio and Playmobil goods available.
The fun store is an independent, family-run business which has fought through the tough times due to the coronavirus pandemic and reopened its doors.
But Covid-19 has resulted in hand sanitiser stations being installed and floor markings being applied, while events which were popular with children coming into the store have had to be cancelled.
Alan Dadswell, chairman of Toys ‘n’ Tuck, said: “Before lockdown, the shop would have had lots of free events for youngsters to try crafts and toys throughout the holidays.
Health and safety - floor markings are in place in an attempt to stop the spread of coronavirus
“But now none of that is possible because of coronavirus.
“Play tables have had to be removed from the shop, cleaning enhanced, screens installed and distance markings laid down. Safety has to come first for customers and staff.”
Toys ‘n’ Tuck started trading at the Royals Shopping Centre in 1996 before moving to its current location in 2007.

With the coronavirus pandemic continuing to concern us all, Christmas would be the last thing on many people’s minds at the moment.
But the festivities are firmly in Toys ‘n’ Tuck’s sights and they are doing all they can to help south Essex parents to make it a Christmas to remember for their children.
Mr Dadswell added: “The savings club is a real help to anyone managing a budget and also allows customers to reserve those must-have items early for just a 10 per cent deposit, saving the last minute hunt for Christmas presents.
“We are also adding a free local delivery offer to club customers this year.
Plenty to offer - Toys 'n' Tuck is a child's paradise due to the sheer number of toys available at the Southend store
“During lockdown, we offered free delivery for orders of £20 or more as well as contactless click and collect.
“The savings club will continue and is proving to be more popular than ever.
“Our gift wrapping service has still proved to be popular despite the Covid-19 outbreak.
“We have also increased the range of educational toys and jigsaws to adapt to the increased demand.”
