THERE has been much debate in the Echo about ways of controlling the pandemic as figures show a worrying rise.
Tinkering with the rules and creating different tiers of control are OK, but the virus needs a jolt to get it back in the right direction.
The only way to do that is to switch off for a short period and then kickstart it with the tiers of Covid alert.
Clearly, the economy is a worry but if we are really going to get on top of this virus, a circuit-breaker is what is needed.
Like Northern Ireland, this brief lockdown would work, coupled with the various tiers of Covid alert afterwards.
