PUPILS and staff are self-isolating at a school after a Year 13 pupil tested positive for Covid-19.
The Sweyne Park School in Rayleigh has sent an email out to all parents of pupils confirming the news this morning.
Headteacher Katharine Dines wrote: "Over the half-term break we received confirmation that one of our Year 13 students had tested positive for Covid-19.
"Having evaluated the situation, Public Heath England advised us to ascertain the 'close contacts' of the student in question, we did this immediately, and those students and one staff member are now self-isolating, and will return to school on 6th November 2020.
"The parents/carers of the students we have identified as having been in direct prolonged contact with the confirmed case have already received an individual email confirming the need for their son/daughter to self-isolate and their return to school date.
“The school remains open and your child should continue to attend if they remain well."
The news comes following the announcement by Prime Minister Boris Johnson that England would enter a second lockdown from Thursday, provided the measures are voted through by MPs on Wednesday.
However, schools will be remaining open under the new measures.
