A spokesman said: "Whilst HM Coastguard Southend were due to leave the scene of the previous incident by the Mermaid Arches Westcliff, Southend Coastguard noticed that another incident RTC was taking place just a little further along the seafront opposite the Beach Hut cafe, Chalkwell, with a HEMS helicopter from Essex & Herts Air Ambulance already on the ground.

Echo:

"Southend Coastguard proceeded to the scene to check if any assistance was needed given the team were already upon the incident.

"The helicopter emergency medical service (HEMS) Pilot requested the assistance of Southend Coastguard to support crowd control as they were due to depart the scene and had Essex Police controlling one end of the cordon but needed Southend Coastguard to support the other end of the cordon so that the HEMS helo could depart safely.

"We wish the casualty a quick recovery."
