PET shop staff have been forced to self isolate after one of their colleagues tested positive for Covid-19.

A member of staff at the Pets at Home store in Pitsea tested positive this week, plunging the shop into temporary closure until January 4.

The Echo was told earlier today "most staff" at the pet store were unable to work.

The Vets4Pets inside the Pets at Home will still be open for emergency appointments and second vaccinations.

A spokesman from Pets at Home, said: "Regrettably we have had a colleague at our Pitsea store test positive for Covid-19 and they are now self-isolating.

"We have advised our other colleagues who have been in the vicinity of our colleague who tested positive, to self-isolate, and as a result we are unable to operate the store normally.

"The store will remain open for click and collect orders only and we are aiming to re-open fully on 4th January, given we are assured it is safe to do so for all our colleagues."

A spokesman from Vets4Pets, added: "All appointments will need to arrive at the back entrance - drive down between Kfc and the store and its on your left - and ring the doorbell on arrival.

"Please make sure you bring your masks and mittens as its getting very chilly and we do not have an inside waiting area available.

"If you already had an appointment scheduled and wish to enquire as to whether this is still going ahead then please email us at basildon@vets4pets.com

"Please don't call as our reception team is currently very busy trying to re-arrange 100s of appointments.

"In order to keep our staff and other clients safe, as well as adhering to current Tier 4 government guidelines, please do not come into us if you are self isolating or exhibiting any symptoms of Covid-19.

"Many thanks for your cooperation during this difficult time, and we apologise for any inconvenience caused."
