HEALTH workers can once again apply for a free parking permit in Southend during lockdown.

NHS health and care workers carrying out essential work during the pandemic can now apply for a free temporary permit that allows them to park in all the borough’s council owned car parks and bays.

The NHS and care workers parking permit, allows them free parking up to the end of March 2021, in pay and display bays, council-run car parks, short-stay bays and resident permit bays.

The permit does not allow for the workers to park on loading bays, footways, pavements, double or single yellow lines, bus stops, zig-zag markings or disabled parking bays.

The permits are virtual, so no paperwork is needed. Successful applicants will have their vehicle registration number logged onto the patrol system.

Ron Woodley, councillor responsible for transport, said: “We are pleased to offer the NHS and care workers parking permit until the end of March, which should allow our amazing key workers across the borough to get around the town to carry out essential work, and make their own lives a little easier at this difficult time.

“We want to show our appreciation and thanks to the amazing work each and every one of you are doing, so please do get in touch if this permit applies to you.”

The temporary permit is valid until March 31 when it will be reviewed.
