A host of weather warnings are in place across Essex this weekend as the coldest weather of the winter arrives.
Forecasters upgrade a yellow weather warning to amber yesterday for snow and ice across all of Essex from today until Monday.
An easterly wind is set to sweep in from tonight and force temperatures below freezing – and it’s unlikely to get above 0c for several days.

So with snow set to arrive, here is a rundown of the Met Office’s forecast for south Essex, using Southend as the focal point.
Saturday 12pm–4pm
50 per cent chance of light rain, with temperatures reaching 6c.
Feels like temperature will be 3/2c
4pm – 8pm
Heavy rain with temperatures dropping to 5c.
Feels like temperature will be near 0c
8pm-12am(Sunday)
Light rain with temperatures dropping to 2c.
Feels like temperature will be -3.
Sunday 12am – 3am
Heavy rain turning to snow throughout the night, with temperatures reaching a maximum of 2c Feels like temperature will be -5c.
3am-6am
90 per cent chance of heavy snow with temperatures down to 1c.
Feels like temperature will be -6c.
6am-9am
Heavy snow throughout, with a maximum temperature of 0c.
Feels like temperature will be -7c
9am-3pm
90 per cent chance of heavy snow continuing to fall, with temperatures staying at 0c.
Feels like temperature will be -7c.
3pm-6pm
Snow expected to become lighter through the afternoon, with chances dropping to 70 per cent by 6am. Maximum temperature will be 0c.
Feels like temperature will be -7c.
6pm-12am(Monday)
70 to 80 per cent chance of light and heavy snow, with temperatures dipping down to -1c.
Feels like temperature will remain at -7c.
The forecast says the cold temperatures will remain into Monday and Tuesday, before finally rising above freezing on Wednesday.
A chance of light snow remains on Monday and Tuesday.
