AN ADDICT has been banned from his mum’s home after harassing her for drug money.

Daine Edwards has been jailed after assaulting his mother, smashing her window and demanding she give him money to fund his habit.

The 36-year-old has wracked up a total of 114 offences and has been committing crimes since he was a child.

Edwards, of Eastwood Road, Leigh, admitted assault, criminal damage, breaching a restraining order and stalking when he was jailed at Basildon Crown Court yesterday.

The offences took place in October last year, where Edwards would go to his mother’s home in Southend, demanding she give him money.

On one occasion when she wouldn’t let him in, he smashed her window, and also a mug.

Another occasion saw his mother take out her phone when he grabbed both her wrists which caused her bruising, at the same time threatening to smash up the house if she called the police.

On October 19, Edwards’ offending was witnessed by his own nephew, who said his behaviour went on for hours.

Edwards would also send multiple messages to his mother when she did not want to help him.

Mitigating, Rhys Rosser told the court that the drug addiction led to the offending.

He said: “He had Covid whilst in custody. He’s had no mobile phone contact, and has been 24 hours a day in his own cell for the past few weeks. He’s keen to rebuild the relationship with his mother and has total remorse. It was entirely driven by drug use.”

Judge Samantha Leigh jailed Edwards for 17 months and gave him a five-year restraining order meaning he cannot go to his mother’s address.
