Three areas in south Essex have bucked the trend and seen coronavirus cases double in the last week.

The majority of areas continue to see a drop in infections, with some even recording fewer than three cases.

But there are some areas with have seen a week-on-week rise in new cases – meaning their localised infection rates still remain high.

These are the areas where cases have at least doubled in the week ending February 18 and the latest infection rate:

Rochford Outer and Hawkwell East

  • New cases – 17 (up 10 from the week before)
  • Infection rate - 211

Hadleigh South

  • New cases - 15 (up 10 from the week before)
  • Infection rate – 229.3

Canvey Island South West

  • New cases – 18 (up 9 from the week before)
  • Infection rate – 215.7

Echo:

All other areas in south Essex now have infection rates lower than 200.

Places such as Benfleet Appleton, Thundersley Glen, Rayleigh North East and Wickford Shotgate have been removed entirely from the Government’s coronavirus hotspots map due to recording fewer than three cases in the week ending February 18.

It comes as weekly coronavirus deaths at hospitals in mid and south Essex have increased by 11.

NHS England revealed yesterday there has been 70 deaths linked to Covid-19 at the Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust in the last seven days.

That's up from 59 the week before.

Today's figures show there has been another 14 combined fatalities recorded at Southend, Basildon and Broomfield hospitals.

It takes the overall death toll to 2,241.
